You put a lot of work into your garden, which means you don't want it to end up full of weeds. Pulling weeds can take a lot of time and energy. However, there are ways that you can control weeds so that you don't have to spend all your time weeding your garden.

Black Plastic

If you are doing an annual garden, like a vegetable garden, you may want to consider using plastic. You can put heavy black plastic down over your garden before you start planting. The thick plastic will help to eliminate weeds that may come up where there are empty spots. In order to plant anything, you would just make slits or an x shape in the plastic and plant through there. That will let the plants grow while keeping weeds out. An additional benefit of using the plastic is that it can help keep the ground warm since the black plastic will absorb the sunlight.

Landscaping Fabric

Another option you can try is landscaping fabric. Landscaping fabric works the same way that the black plastic does, by making sure that there is no space that weeds can get a hold of and start popping up.

Mulch

Mulch is another option open to you. The nice thing about mulch, like Mulch Masters, is that you can put it on either a perennial or annual garden. Since you just put the mulch down around your garden and your plants, it doesn't matter when your plants come up. For added protection, you can put mulch down over things like black plastic or the landscaping fabric. If you want to use mulch, there are a wide variety of mulches that you can choose from. Most mulch is made from some kind of wood, however, there are other options like coconut husks, rocks, straw, and even cardboard and shredded paper. With a thick enough layer mulch, the weeds are strangled out. Another benefit of using mulch is that it can help with moisture retention. Whenever you water your garden, the mulch will help keep the water in by the roots. That means you won't have to water as much, which can be a good way to save some money.

If you put in a lot of work on getting your garden to look good, you don't want weeds to get in and ruin all your hard work. There are ways that you can keep weeds from getting a foothold in your garden.
